— The June 2023 issue of MEN'S NON-NO featured a special feature entitled "Icons of the Present and the Current State of Fashion," featuring 12 celebrities in the spotlight at MEN'S NON-NO. Each celebrity wore luxury brands in their own unique style, and the finale of this feature was a special guest from Korea, SEVENTEEN's DK (Dokyeom), making his first appearance in MEN'S NON-NO. Dior's latest creations — filled with an insatiable creative quest to respect the past and connect it to the future — resonate with DK's sincere approach to life, which looks to the future. He greeted the editorial staff, who flew to Seoul at short notice, with a smile and agreed to his first interview for MEN'S NON-NO readers!
So let’s move onto some fashion questions! What is fashion to DK?
🐰 It’s a way of expressing myself. Different fashion items can highlight a person’s style and that’s why fashion is a way of expression to me. Actually for me, I like to think of my style and dress up. After I dressed up myself, I like seeing how I looked in the mirror, and I think how people may feel happier when they see how I dressed. I believe fashion is a way to express oneself and a way to communicate with others and it’s quite an amazing tool.
When we look at your Instagram（@dk_is_dokyeom）, we can see that you’re really into fashion.
🐰 I’m so glad to hear that you could see that. I like styling myself in general, and I also like seeing my Instagram feed filled with popular fashion news. Of course, I post on Instagram mostly to communicate with CARATS, so it’s a fun assignment when I think of what fashion style to wear before posting.
You went to the Milan Fashion Week this winter, so were there any fond memories you have about fashion?
🐰 It’s exactly th event you said - Milan Fashion Week was the most memorable to me. This was my first time going to Europe, and I was moved because this was my first time appearing in fashion week too. When I saw how others’ fashion styles looked like, I was inspired. I became more interested in fashion ever since.
How important are costumes in stage performances?
🐰 I believe costumes make up a part of the stage artistry. When we go on stage, singing and dancing are aspects which could convey the skillful parts of the performance but visuals capture the eye, and it’s significant in attracting the audience’s attention. With that, I believe it’s very important to consider what kind of fashion style we are showing on stage. That’s something not just me but other members also consider.
You mentioned that “fashion is a way of expressing myself”. So fashion is equally important to you whether you’re off stage or on stage.
🐰 Yes! Even normally in my private time, I’m interested in fashion! By the way, I’ve loved bright and cute things all along. I love cute pet dogs, and I find cuteness in many things apart from in fashion. But it seems from what I wear, what I like is different from what suits me… (smiles).
